For many mountain villagers of Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte in the Philippines, basic health services are non-existant. The remote location and lack of peace and order in the area make it difficult for any medical services to reach them. Thanks to the funds raised by the 2009 Fall term of the MGMT 4431 Leadership Development Class at Mount Royal University, MTF is able to respond to a request from one remote community to conduct a medical mission in their village.
MTF, in partnership with TVI Resource Development Inc. - CREDO, the Rural Health Unit of Siocon and the Local Community Council, will conduct a medical mission in the Sept/Oct period of 2010. The timing of the mission will depend on the local conditions and will take place as soon conditions permit access to the community. The medical mission will have 3 Doctors, 2 Dentists and 1 dental assistant and provide free services to 355 households (over 1000 people). The villagers will receive western and traditional medical consultation, tooth extractions, medication, information sessions on dengue fever prevention.
